Care instructions for natural hair blankets
Please read these care instructions to ensure the longevity of your natural hair blanket! We recommend not washing your natural hair blanket before use, as the blankets are thoroughly washed with natural soap during manufacturing and are hygienically safe for use. Your natural hair blanket does not contain additional finishing agents, such as softeners. Your natural hair blanket is only mechanically finished and contains no chemical additives.
The susceptibility to dirt in natural hair is reduced by a natural residual fat content on the hair.
Therefore, wool blankets or blankets made from animal hair generally do not get dirty or only minimally so. However, this protection is of little use against red wine... but it is very effective in normal use!
The natural-chemical structure of wool ensures that body sweat is neutralized. Even after several years of use, a natural hair blanket will not smell unpleasant.
As is usual with wool products, simply hang them occasionally outdoors in a sheltered area with the highest possible humidity.
The pile recovers and the hairs regenerate optimally this way.
If you do not use the blanket for a longer period and store it in a closet in winter, I recommend keeping it in an airtight polybag or plastic bag. This prevents contamination from possible moth damage.
As a rule, these high-quality blankets are not washed. However, if you do want to wash the blanket after a few years, please note the following:
Please wash the blanket individually!
Additional load in the washing machine causes increased friction and promotes shrinking and felting of the natural hair, which should be avoided if possible.
Please select a gentle wool wash program with the lowest possible wash temperature, cold and hand wash program (if available).
Please use a gentle wool detergent or simply a commercially available conditioner (hair rinse), which you add to the main wash cycle.
Care instructions: Reduce the spin speed (max. 400 rpm) and stop the spin cycle after 3 minutes.
Never put the blanket in the dryer! It would felt unnecessarily!
After spinning, lay the blanket on a large cotton towel and roll both together (do not wring!), this will extract additional moisture from the blanket and speed up the drying process.
Unroll the blanket and lay it over several clotheslines to dry (e.g., a drying rack).
After drying, you can shake out the blanket by taking it at the corners (with the help of another person) and flapping it.
I personally advise against dry cleaning.
The chemical cleaning process unnecessarily removes residual fat content from the wool, and the blanket will subsequently be less protected against soiling. After chemical cleaning, the blankets often smell unpleasant and feel straw-like.
During manufacturing, we put a lot of effort and numerous steps into creating a beautiful, even pile.
After washing, the blanket will no longer be as even and fluffy in its pile compared to a new, unwashed blanket.
Nevertheless, the natural properties of the wool are retained during use.
Wool and hair tend to felt due to their natural scale structure. This means:
Mechanics, heat, moisture (water), temperature cause a felting process!
These parameters should be kept as low as possible during washing.
